Steezy Turmeric Yam Fries

Naturally sweet, a little spicy, these babies beckon to be tossed into something zesty!

Your sweet little potato’s are way too innocent to be eaten with just salt & pepper. They long to get dirty in something foreign with a little hint of badass.

With the right prep, they’re pretty easy and oh so worth it

Eating the same old thing, the same old way is boring. These roasted fries are exactly what the doctor ordered and they’re so easy to make—even if  you’re dumb as a post, you can handle this one. Roasting the yams also makes them far healthier than fried so you don’t have to feel guilty.

Yam – Yams are made up of complex carbohydrates and dietary fiber allowing for slow uptake to keep blood sugar levels steady. Yams have healthy skin promoting and bone strengthening vitamin A, which also works to heighten night vision (…But probably don’t toss your headlamp).

Turmeric – Curcumin, the compound in turmeric responsible for that bright hue, is behind a whole host of the health benefits attributed to the spice. Shown to have anti-inflammatory properties, and therefore help with pain of tough workouts, long hours of physical activity, overuse and arthritis.

Turmeric for preventing cancer

A phase I clinical trial looked at giving curcumin (the active ingredient in Turmeric) to 25 patients with pre cancerous changes in different organs. This study seemed to show that curcumin could stop the precancerous changes becoming cancer.

Research has also shown that there are low rates of certain types of cancer in countries where people eat curcumin at levels of about 100 to 200 mg a day over long periods of time.

A number of lab studies on cancer cells have shown that curcumin does have anticancer effects. It seems to be able to kill cancer cells and prevent more from growing. It has the best effects on breast cancer, bowel cancer, stomach cancer and skin cancer cells.
